I wanted to see what it was like to
climb as high as I could in a building that wasn’t made for me. My name is Beseera Khan and I am a performance and visual artist. I was
invited to come and share braid rage with the University Museum. It consists of casts of the corners of my body and I cast them in resin and embed wearable
chains and hyperthermia blankets and hair inside of each one of the objects. It is fashioned in the same way as you would see in an indoor rock climbing gym
and I’m struggling to climb and there’s no performativity because I’m in such
fatigue that I can’t perform. So I’m an instrument, I’m kind of like this weird brown girl who’s like all chopped up and then I’m just like okay well I’m just
gonna see what I can do on this wall. And so essentially it’s super dramatic way
of just making a drawing. It’s rage, that’s the big idea. The best way to deal with rage is endurance and like getting oxygen to your brain and
doing something.
