History Harvest seeking items for Bell Library archives

Chris 6:00 news at noon continues welcome back everybody my guest today is Ann Hodges she’s the archivist from the bell library at Texas A&M Corpus Christi she handles all the special papers that we have been able to collect of dignitaries and regular people from around South Texas but now you have a chance to participate in something called a history harvest explain what a history harvest is and it’s a gathering we’re hosting this time as the art museum of South Texas where we hope members of the community community will come and bring us their family heritage materials photographs letters movies videos Wow see like I have a picture of my grandpa in World War 1 in Paris France so it’s very special to me I always said what am I gonna do when I’m gone who’s gonna take care of this now here’s a place to put it tell us what you would do with it absolutely we would put it in a stable climate control environment where it’s protected and we would also at the same time make it available for people to see on a secure basis so everything we have in this department in the archives it stays there okay you’re gonna preserve it forever all right now a lot of people may or may not know that the papers of dr. Hector P Garcia are in her special collection library but also other important documents from around the region yes we have the blue tree family papers and surveying records a Daniel e Kilgore collection those are our three biggest our most recent acquisition is the League of Women Voters Corpus Christi records well so if you have great photographs and even they don’t have to be that old through but for me I want to see the old pictures you come down to the Art Museum of South Texas and what if 50 people show up can you handle that many it will be a crowd for us but we have done a trial this with LULAC counsel number one a few months back and we have a process worked out that it’s a multi-stage activity and if we have that many people or when we have people who have a lot of materials we will make follow-up appointment all right you can make a follow-up appointment so this is a great opportunity for you for eight and nine at the Art Museum of South Texas that’s at the end of shoreline under the Harbour Bridge the phone number for the university is 8:00 to 5:00 4500 or you can email Special Collections at Tammuz CC edu but punch line is all you have to do is show up with a few photographs maybe five or ten that’s fine we had someone show up with one someone start up with 34 good enough and then we can preserve them forever we’ll be right back with a final look at your forecast coming up
