Finding Music and Musical Scores – UVic Libraries Research Help video

UVic has the largest collection of music and musical scores on the island, with over 40,000 LPs, 15,000 CDs and a vast online collection of tunes and scores. To search the catalogue for music and musical scores, go to the Books and Media tab, and select the “Keyword with Boolean” option from the drop down menu under “Search in”. Use the limits function to select either CDs/vinyl or Music scores. For tips on Boolean searching, watch our video on Search Tips. You should always include multiple terms in your searches. For music searches, include the composer’s name, and use the plural of the genre, such as concertos or sonatas. You should also include the name of the instrument if applicable, the performer’s name, and any unique words from the title. If you know the opus or thematic catalogue number, include that as well. Consult the subject guides on Music or Music Education for specific music citation guides, web resources, and other helpful services. Visit the Music & Media page to learn about borrowing equipment, using the editing rooms, and much more. You can also access Listen Online from this page, which lets you listen to free streaming music 24 hours a day. For more information, visit the subject guides, the Music and Media desk, or contact the music librarian, Bill Blair.
