Drawing Inspiration from Heritage and History

I want people to feel the sense of
rhythm with color. I think I want my artwork to generate thought. Thought having to do with culture, so that everybody can understand that differences exists, and that it’s beautiful and that it helps us be better. My name is Rocky Cotard. I’m an
illustration major with a fine arts minor, and I’m an artist. some of my ideas come from internal or past memories or things that are in my distant
memory that I’m playing around with. so Haiti is definitely a place where I feel
inspiration lies. Something that’s in the works right now is a screen print project of cultural portrait taking images of Haiti in terms of drinks and
reproducing those and in screen printings I tend to veer on the side of giving
positivity to those who are not treated correctly giving them a better image
than what they have seen themselves as and I have two baby sisters, who I
love, so I really just think of them when I create things, things that will make
them you know feel beautiful. I actually have a hand in creating the world that they come into. I do feel the place of an artist, of being able to post something and have people respond to it or have it in a show and have people connect to it
in a way that I didn’t intend. For me it’s considering how awesome it feels to have a voice.
