Now I’ve drawn the arms, I’m moving on to the hands.
This character has got thick, leather gloves on. I’m adding wrinkles to make the gloves look more realistic. Depending on the type of glove, adding seams along the fingers can add believability. While drawing the map, I’m thinking about the space between his fingers.
This way it looks like he’s grasping it. I’m adding some rips along the edges of the map to indicate how well-used it is. The paper is rolled up, so part of it juts out at the top.
Another way to add realism is to draw a spiral at the bottom where the paper curls. His map wasn’t folded up nicely. I imagine it has been hurriedly rolled up. It’s fun to think about each item’s story and how to express that.
